Merch on Tap Playbook
Table-touch QR promos that actually convert
This is the play we run inside diners, supper clubs, and cocktail lounges when they want merch revenue without adding a “merch manager” to the schedule. It’s all about scripting QR mentions, rotating offers, and letting automation do the heavy lifting after the scan.
01
Why table-touch QR promos work.
Merch conversion sky-rockets when the CTA references what the guest is already experiencing: the drink in their hand, the chef story they just heard, the live jazz set. QR codes let us capture that impulse, schedule shipping, and keep the guest’s hands free for the rest of the night.
- QR feels premium when it is bespoke—match the palette, animate the code, and label it like part of the menu.
- Guests hate hauling merch mid-evening. Shipping solves the friction while keeping the emotional high.
- Every scan is trackable. We can tell which script, seat, or offer unlocked the order.
02
Scripts you can hand to the team.
These work verbatim. Customize the drink/dish name and you’re live.
Host stand (arrival)
“If you fall in love with the glassware or jackets, scan this QR anytime tonight—we’ll ship it to you so you don’t carry bags on the way out.”
Server table-touch (mid-meal)
“Tonight’s barrel-aged Manhattan has a matching limited tee—scan the amber QR on the card and it unlocks while the cocktail is on the table.”
Bartender (late-night bar seats)
“Last call doesn’t stop the merch—scan the coaster, pick a size, and it’ll meet you back home.”
Chef/GM cameo
“We drop a new apron every menu change. The QR on the dessert menu unlocks it for the next 48 hours.”
03
Offer rotation calendar.
Guests get bored if you push the same drop all month. Here’s a four-week cadence we use for most local venues.
Week 1
Signature cocktail bundle
Tee or glass for the drink-of-the-month + sticker sheet.
Week 2
Staff pick
Employees vote; we feature their favorite drop with an at-cost perk for them.
Week 3
Neighborhood collab
Partner with a local roaster/bakery—include their voucher with every QR order.
Week 4
Members-only
Unlock a password-protected drop for mug club/vip list. Promote the program alongside the merch.
04
Measurement & iteration.
Scan-to-order time
- Under 90 seconds is ideal. Trim steps, auto-insert variants, and prefill discount codes for staff.
Attach rate by script
- Tag each QR (host, server, bar) so you can see who’s creating conversions. Coach the lowest performer weekly.
Offer fatigue
- If CTR drops for two weeks straight, retire the offer and replace it with new art/flavor copy.
Staff utilization
- Goal: <20 minutes per week. If staff are spending longer, automate what’s slowing them down (address edits, payouts, etc.).
